Mark II and Mark IV Supras are getting either too ratty or are already to expensive. This has gotten to the point that the Mark III Supras are becoming cooler to me... Am I wrong or would this be a fun second car to own?

If you want an overcomplicated, chubby Mk2 go ahead.
I don’t think Mk3's will be in much better condition than a Mk2 these days. They’ve been teenage beater cars for a decade or so now.

The best one is the 2.5L 1JZ-GTE engine (with, obviously, 276hp, as usual), but I think you could only get it here in Japan...
In the states, you had a 3L turbocharged engine, but it was quite a bit less powerful...

I absolutely adored the Manuél A6. Hands down best car I’ve ever owned and one of the best I’ve ever driven. So much torque in every gear and a bit of a sleeper also. It was also reliable and easy to care for.
I honestly want to sell my ‘16 Jetta Sport and get a B5 S4 just to get the 2.7t power back. The Jetta was an impulse buy to be honest.
Glad the Porsche is doing well! An exhaust would be awesome.

The clutch went out and it needed a bunch of work on top of that. Stupid wear items. I didn’t have the time or space to fix it myself and it would’ve costed too much to have it done by a shop. It was a really rare color combo as well, the color was “racing green pearl” and it was a low mileage one owner car. I wish I still had it.

Hahahah, it may be a while. It’s paid off, but it’s already depreciated so much.
I try to make myself like it, then I like it a little, then something else happens. Like recently I dislike how it’s slow as hell, merging onto a highway where everybody is going 75 requires a third gear at a high rpm and a large gap in traffic. In the A6, I could do it in 6th gear without effort.
The 997 is already pretty :)

There’s like a $50k gap between the F1 and the manuals...
My First Ferrari is going to be an F1, isn’t it? The barrier to entry is too high for the manuals, and after a certain point you can’t get manuals at all because they don’t make them anymore. We’re already at the point where the autos have stopped appreciating. If that gap gets any bigger...
Manuél Ferrari
> PS9
09/26/2016 at 00:01 | 0 |
Yeah, it’s insane!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crap I wish I got a Manuél 360 too when they were cheap. I didn’t like the headlights. But I could have sold it and made a profit.
Yeah at this point it’s hard to find any good deals on a manual F car. There are some manual 355s for under $100K but I’ve looked at them and they’re messed up. The good ones are close to or over $100K every single time. And they’re expensive to maintain.
The only cheap one left is the 348. Nobody likes it because it’s kind of slow. But who cares, we should get them before it’s too late.
Other than the 348 there are 2 options:
1. Hope that FCA’s financial issues will cause them to copy Porsche and bring back the Manuél. The 911R was a huge success so now the next GT3 will have a manual option. Maybe Ferrari will make a sub 488 sports car that has a manual for the profits. Imagine if they made a mid-engine V6 with Manuél. If it started under $180K then it would sell like mad and there would be a lot of them out there to depreciate and later be had for under $100K.
2. Buy an F1 car and do Manuél swap. You won’t have matching numbrers but who cares if you’re going to DD it. There is a lot of talk on FChat right now about people doing this with the F430. Doing the manual swap is not cheap, but cheaper than spending $200K on an original car.

I think we will see Manual Ferraris move into air-cooled porsche territory in our lifetimes. They don’t make anymore, and the world is still full of trust fund babies and poles that don’t have expensive machinery wrapped around them. The number - as low as they already are - will just keep dwindling.
Why didn’t I buy intel stock as a kid? Why didn’t I buy apple stock as a young adult? Why don’t I know next weeks lotto numbers?
Manuél Ferrari
> PS9
09/26/2016 at 00:08 | 1 |
Yeah that’s happening for sure. Which is further proof that we need to buy the 348. It’s not that bad of a car, it just got a bad rap because the NSX was better. One day people will look back and think “whey didn’t I buy that for $50K when I could?” like they do now with 993s.
It’s way more rare than a 993 too.
Why didn’t I buy Apple stock when the iPhone came out? I had already switched my laptop to Mac in 2004. I knew they made some cool stuff and that their stock was cheap. I considered it but I was lazy...

6 years ago, a friend of mine penned a blog post about why the MK3 isn’t good. To this day, it is still the 2nd hit on google for “MK3 Supra”, surpassed only by the Wikipedia article. I feel as if there’s a reason for that.

Manuél Ferrari
> jkm7680
09/28/2016 at 22:21 | 1 |
Yeah superchargers don’t have lag. But I don’t think they help efficiency much because they’re driven by the motor, whereas turbos recycle energy that would have been wasted.
I like the supercharger sound more because they don’t muffle the exhaust, you just get the whine. But a modern turbo is the more efficient and eco friendly solution.

My 997.2 C2 (which looks just like this!) is hands down the highest quality vehicle I’ve ever owned.
I got it with 12K miles on the clock and now have a bit over 60,000. The only issue I ever had was the radio/nav unit died while it was under warranty and Porsche replaced it. I’ve yet to have even one minor mechanical issue.
I’ve bought and sold multiple cars since getting my 997 and I keep going back to it. It’s just the best DD ever as I never have to worry that it won’t start up or won’t get me home.
This seems like a good deal on a 997.1 car. All this car would need (if not done already) is the IMS issue prevention and it should be just as reliable as my car. You can get that done for $2500 or less these days.
Unless this car was abused I doubt it would have any issues. And I don’t even know how you can abuse it other than by not maintaining it. If there are maintenance records then you should be safe as I drive the piss out of my car and it never hurts it. I accelerate, turn and brake hard daily and the car doesn’t give a flying fuck. Unlike most cars it was built to do that so driving it hard probably makes it more reliable instead of less.
jkm7680
> Manuél Ferrari
10/19/2016 at 15:54 | 0 |
Ah, thanks for the insight.
I don’t really drive that much (500 miles a month), so it would be good for DD duty as far as I’m concerned. One aspect I’m a bit worried about it the usability of the backseat, since I do serve as chauffeur for my friends pretty often.
Have you done anything to it modification wise? If I got one, I’d really consider getting wheels from a newer one and doing some OEM+ stuff here and there.
